Flying Probe systems are commonly used for testing PCB prototypes/NPI, testing PCB’s with accessibility problems and testing low to mid volume PCB production. They are therefore perfectly suitable for electronic manufacturers (EMS). Flying Probe Testers can be classified as Manufacturing Defects Analyzers (MDAs) or as in-circuit test (ICT) systems. They use automatically operating probes to test the components on the board. One of the main advantages of a Flying Probe Tester is that it doesn’t require a fixed bed-of-nails, thus making changes in the design of a prototype is having minimal impact on testing the prototype!
