Electric power quality involves all kind of effects on the power like we have voltage, frequency, and waveform. When de we have a steady supply voltage that stays within the prescribed range, steady a.c. frequency close to the rated value, and smooth voltage curve waveform (resembles a sine wave) we can define that as a good power quality. In general, it is useful to consider power quality as the compatibility between what comes out of an electric outlet and the load that is plugged into it. Without the proper power, an electrical device (or load) may malfunction, fail prematurely or not operate at all. There are many ways in which electric power can be of poor quality and many more causes of such poor quality power.
Power Quality in Telecoms
Our PQube 3 power monitor is specially designed to capture and report disturbances on both AC power mains and DC busses (e.g. 48 VDC), simultaneously. It can also monitor environmental characteristics, such as temperature and humidity that can be difficult and costly to diagnose otherwise.
Our PQube 3 power monitor is ideal for monitoring electric utility power quality and flow, especially if you need to monitor at equipment terminals, or for measuring voltage at the edge of the feeder. And, our Industrial Power Corruptor (IPC) can help your customers increase their equipment immunity, reducing power disturbances and complaints.
Power Quality in Air & Air Traffic
Airports are full of sensitive equipment that can be tripped by power disturbances. Luggage inspection systems can experience power glitches - especially in less advanced airports. Our PQube 3 unit can monitor and report on power quality issues before they cause serious problems and impact travel schedules or flight operations.
Combination of old and new yields novel power grid cybersecurity tool
PSL's microPMU has generated interest from National Labs, power utility research departments and technical universities all over the world. By modernizing the electricity grid, microPMUs increase its reliability and resiliency, and reduce the time for restoration of service when disruptions occur. You can learn more about this innovative grid tool that provides security monitoring and analysis framework, below.
Simultaneous, Synchronized DC and AC Monitoring
PQube® 3 supports simultaneous, synchronized DC and AC voltage, current and power measurements, with power quality, event detection, waveform digitization, and alert capabilities for all data channels.
