It continuously monitors critical parameters and issues alarms when measurements exceed preset thresholds. The monitoring process compares newly acquired OTDR traces to the reference trace related to the specific optical switch port under test. EXFO’s OG-5240 Optical Guardian is an optical-layer monitoring unit designed for deployment at strategic points within optical networks. It continuously measures critical parameters and issues alarms when measurements exceed preset thresholds. Monitoring is performed on each optical carrier related to each optical switch port (up to 200 optical carriers per port) within the C, L and S bands. Monitored parameters for each optical carrier include optical power, optical signal-to-noise ratio and wavelength.
